Is Fruit Good For Me?

In a nutshell yes, it is, although it has had a bit of flack recently because of the sugar content: If you are trying to lose weight you should be aiming for at least 5 portions of fruit and veg a day and it is suggested that 3 of them should be veg, and 2 fruit. Fruit has more calories per portion than veg, due to the sugar content.

However, don’t fear the sugar in fruit, although most of it is fructose. The amount of fructose you would get in your diet from eating even loads of fruit would not hurt you and, in fact, because it is bound up in the fruit with lots of fibre and because it is high in fructose, the glycaemic load of most fruit is low, meaning it is released in a nice slow sustained way into the blood stream with no nasty blood sugar spikes, which is great for diabetics.

Fruit is associated with lots of other nutrients such as vitamin C. Berries contain several ant-inflammatory compounds which may help ward of cancers, heart disease and even arthritis
